AI to solve wildfire problems

Over the past year, AI language models such as ChatGPT and Gemini have been heralded as ushering in the next wave of technology that will forever change human lives and human existence. One camp suggests that such tools will revolutionize how we will and another camp fears about the potential dangers of such technology being developed and used without any guard rails.

Students are challenged to think of how AI language models might be used to tackle some of the pressing challenges in the wildfire space, whether it be social equity issues, dissemination of information, or prediction of wildfire risk. Participants may also wish to consider the potential or shortcomings of the current generation AI models.
